Mozilla Web Literacy (Webmaker) Workshop


On 30th April 2016, we organized 'Mozilla Web Literacy (Webmaker) Workshop' at GLA University ,Mathura. The workshop was organized by GLAU Firefox Club Lead Miss Monika Agrawal under the guidance of faculty facilitator Mr. Jitesh Kumar Bhatia. Other volunteers also helped us to organize this workshop.



The workshop began with the welcome speech by Club lead followed by workshop inauguration ceremony and motivating words of our honorable Head of Department, Dr. Anand Singh Jalal. He motivated everyone to join FSA programme and start contributing. 


After this club lead highlighted key facts about Mozilla, how Firefox provides best privacy browsing and tracking protection along with how one can sync Firefox on all the devices they have. Apart from this she also highlighted the fact about how we can make cool apps by using Mozilla Webmaker, how we can contribute to Mozilla Developer Network and cool features of Mozilla X-ray goggles. This session highlighted some unknown facts about Mozilla and students were keen to experience the change.


The workshop was taken forward by Mr. Rahul Pradhan, the assistant professor who shared his knowledge about Big Data with the students. With demonstrations and brief explanation he was able to share his knowledge with us. After this our faculty facilitator Mr. Jitesh Kumar Bhatia, the assistant professor took a session on Web Crawling process. This session highlighted many facts about search engines and SEO. He took the example of Firefox and explained how web crawling occurs and how we can track our digital footprints. Mozilla privacy was also highlighted in this session along with a demonstration on how typical browsing experience looks like in Firefox.




We headed for a lunch break after this session. On arrival, all the volunteers along with club lead and faculty facilitator organized a fun game for refreshing students. Winners were given goodies received from Mozilla along with a pen from college. Students showed great enthusiasm during this entire activity.






This refreshed everyone now next session was taken by Dr. Dilip Kumar Sharma, program coordinator and assistant professor about Digital India. All the students and volunteers were greatly motivated by his session. Taking workshop forward, Ms. Anupama Yadav, the assistant professor took a session on Internet of Things. This was something different for students and that were eager to know more about IoT.




This marked the end of our workshop, before the closing ceremony, there was a prize distribution ceremony. All the winners, volunteers, chief guest, honorable speakers and club lead were given a gift hamper which contained goodies as received by Mozilla along with a token of thanks from GLA University. Volunteers ended this workshop by giving a vote of thanks to everyone present in this workshop. Students were asked to raise their queries and join FSA by filling up application form before departing. Everyone was eager to be a part of Mozilla FSA family.


















Overall workshop was a great learning experience for all of us. We are looking forward to organizing another workshop in coming semester.
